Jaspal Bhatti Cultural Evening

JASPAL BHATTI CULTURAL EVENING was organized by the Punjab Engineering College Old Students Association (PECOSA)in the auditorium of the PEC on 5 Oct 2018 to remember their distinguished alumnus Padam Bhushan Jaspal Bhatti.

The students of PEC performed various cultural items mainly based on the theme of his popular TV shows ULTA PULTA, FULL TENSION, and FLOP SHOW which hit hard on the various evils of the society like dowry, corruption, adultery, drug trafficking, corrupt electoral practices, female foeticide, bribery etc.

Besides the cultural program, scholarships and prizes worth about 2.8 lakhs rupees were awarded to the meritorious students of the university by the Chief Guest, Er Dhanpat Singh Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Haryana Government, who is an alumnus of the PEC of 1982 batch. Mrs. Savita Bhatti was the present at the occasion as a Guest of Honour.

Er KK Vohra President PECOSA, in his welcome address, remembered Jaspal Bhatti as a great satirist, humorist, cartoonist and an actor who attacked various evil practices such as dowry, adultery, drug trafficking, bribery, and bad electoral practices. He also lauded his role in underlying the issues of national importance such as female foeticide and the significance of growing trees for a pollution free environment. He thanked the alumni of the 1968 batch for donating 60 lakh rupees to PECOSA for awarding 8 scholarships of 50000 rupees each to the students of PEC every year. He highlighted the Solar Technology Park developed in the institute by Er RK Kaura an alumnus of the 1973 batch and dedicated to the 1973 batch in the morning at another function held in the morning. He also lauded the role of Er Dhanpat Singh as President of Kalpana Chawla Memorial Foundation and his association with various NGOs and social organizations.
